Ms. Graziella, what does the term "eco-friendly hotel" mean to you? How does the environmental changes that occur every day around the world relate to your hotel experience?
I'm convinced that today we need to be even more responsible for the choices we make, especially in the workplace, where factors and dynamics related to completely different environments and people come into play. Climate change is real and is occurring at a much faster pace than we perhaps anticipated. The same is true for water and air pollution levels, which have recently undergone new forms of propagation and diffusion. I firmly believe that a hotel business must be aware of how the environment responds to tourist flows and must consider the impact its facility may have on the local area. This is because a hotel serves people first and foremost, individuals who want to enjoy a pleasant holiday or who travel for business and want to do so knowing they can enjoy various comforts. In both cases, people are interested in knowing how their actions affect the environment around them, even when they travel. It's important to raise this awareness, otherwise people risk only thinking about the environment when it comes to recycling and household waste, or at best, when they see some environmental campaign on television. Any workplace should take a solid and well-reasoned stance on this issue.
So how does the Spa Hotel Parigi 2 protect the environment and avoid unnecessary waste?
I believe it was an excellent choice to turn our linen service over to Orio Team Srl, our official supplier and a leading eco-friendly industrial laundry company in the Bergamo area. Delivering fresh, clean linens to your guests' rooms that also comply with current environmental regulations is far from a given. Many countries these days, and, regrettably, many hotels and other accommodation facilities as well, rely on less reputable companies that are overly permissive when it comes to waste, in order to keep costs down and perhaps have less paperwork to contend with. Our decision to turn to Orio Team stemmed from the idea of choosing a supplier that has established itself in the textile washing industry thanks to its innovative machinery, careful monitoring of CO2 and energy consumption, and compliance with current regulations regarding the preferred detergents to reduce environmental impact. It should be emphasized that the linen is "microbiologically guaranteed" according to the European standard UNI EN 14065. This is an investment we make with guests and the environment in mind, complying with a series of European directives, such as: environmental impact due to the treatment of the linen (less water waste and pollution due to the treatment it undergoes before being discharged into the sewer system), proximity of the supplier (just 2 km away), and a series of corporate parameters of the supplier, who also holds the "ISO 9001 Quality Management" and "ISO 140001 Environmental Management" certifications, which are an integral part of the development plan proposed by the European Commission called "Europe 2020."
One last question: do you think the modern traveler, today's tourist, is aware of this choice when it comes to booking a hotel?
I suspect not everyone is aware of the amount of water used simply to wash sheets, towels, and bath towels. Such a seemingly simple action, if you only look at the tip of the iceberg that hides this type of service. We live in a world that seems increasingly less aware of the time and effort required for any type of gesture. We go to the supermarket and it seems normal and obvious to find a potentially infinite variety of products; all neatly stored, all carefully catalogued and organized, ready to be purchased. We don't ask ourselves where they come from or how they got on the shelf, how many people it took for our act of purchasing to become a reality and then gradually become a habit. The same happens with the services a hotel offers its guests. I believe it is truly essential to remind people of the consequences of our actions, the quality of what we possess, and the relationship between humanity and the environment. Some guests are already aware of all this, while others are looking for someone to help them understand and learn more. What I've noticed is that everyone positively values a green stance and a good balance between travel experience and environmental impact. We're committed to raising this awareness, and our guests seem to fully support our choices.
