Eco-friendly hotel linens: find out how they are made

Have you ever been curious to learn how eco-friendly hotel linens are made? If so, this short post is for you!

If you, like us, believe that customers should experience a pleasant sensation of well-being when they go to bed under the sheets, it is good to know how to achieve a result of softness in fabrics that does not compromise the durability of hotel linens .

How sheets and sponges are made

Behind the production of hotel linen there is a long process that goes from the cultivation of the cotton fibre , to spinning , dyeing , weaving , and the so-called finishing operations.

It is also important to know that at every stage, from the most creative to the most technical and sophisticated, there are product controls and certifications that allow us to obtain quality garments that are, above all, safe for health .

In fact, the type of treatment of the fibre first and then of the fabric that occurs in each phase of linen production leaves residues that are harmful to health (We have opted for a product that is guaranteed by the OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100® certification throughout the entire supply chain).

Cotton production and its transformation can be divided into three parts: from staple to yarn, from yarn to fabric and from fabric to finished product .

After these, therefore the finished product, there is its journey towards the last step of the supply chain, that is, the Hotel and the meeting with the guest.

From Bow to Yarn:

Seed Organization : There are companies that collect the seeds produced by the companies, check them and send them to the various cotton plantations.

Cotton production : the first real stage of the cotton supply chain. The largest producers are China, the USA, and India.

Ginning : the first process, that is, the separation of the cotton from the seed.

Selection and cleaning : The cotton is selected and cleaned and ready to be spun into yarn.

Fiber preparation : it can be recognized by its elongated shape, mostly filamentous in nature, endowed with resistance, flexibility and elasticity.

From Yarn to Fabric:

Spinning : a series of operations that give rise to yarns.

Twisting : the first twisting of the wire, which takes place in the die using the twisting machine.

Winding : the purpose of gathering together in a single bobbin the yarn successively unwound from several bobbins coming from spinning or twisting

Dyeing : It is performed on yarn in bobbins, skeins or in pieces.

Warp bonding : the treatment of the warp with special adhesives. The aim is to increase the yarn's strength and eliminate lint.

From Yarn to Fabric:

Weaving : it is done with the loom through various types of interweaving.

From Fabric to Product:

Finishing : A term used in some textile industries meaning finishing.

Packaging : The garment is cut to size, sewn, packaged and ready to ship.

Certifications : Certifications are a guarantee for the end user and of the quality/comfort of the product.

The more intense a product's contact with the skin and the more sensitive the skin, the more stringent the human-ecological requirements it will have to meet.
